Feature Phone FAQ
• What is WHERE?
WHERE allows you to quickly launch a mobile experience that helps more than 3 million mobile users discover, save and share local places. WHERE puts the best information at your fingertips, helping you feel local wherever you are.
• How accurate is my GPS location in WHERE?
Typically, GPS is accurate to within a city block of your current physical location. If you are indoors (or in an obstructed location) or your network provider is having problems, your GPS location may only be accurate to your current city area; in a worst-case scenario, if your provider got an Assisted GPS Fix, your location may only be accurate to the nearest cell tower.
If you feel your GPS location is inaccurate, the best thing you can do is restart WHERE and try again. You can also try disabling GPS on your handset and entering your location manually (when prompted).
• Do I need an unlimited data plan to use WHERE?
No, you don’t need one, but we do suggest it. Every time you use WHERE, you are accessing pages over your phone’s network. Therefore, the more you use WHERE, the more data you consume. If you’re interested in downloading WHERE and are unsure of your current dataplan, we strongly suggest you contact your carrier to make sure you’ve got the plan you need to accommodate your data usage.
• Once I’ve signed up, can I change my PIN, email address, and phone number?
You can change all this information on the Where profile page. However, we will have to confirm that you are really you by sending you a confirmation email or SMS to which you will need to act.
• If I get a new phone, how do I reload WHERE on my phone?
On most mobile carriers, when you purchase a new phone you will have to re-subscribe to any applications such as WHERE that you previously had on your phone. For instructions on how to subscribe, please see the question ‘How Do I Get WHERE on my Phone?’.
Once you’re subscribed to the WHERE application on your phone, you can change your phone model by visiting www.where.com and clicking on the ‘Change my phone model’ link at the bottom of the page.
• Why does WHERE collect my email address and phone number on the m.where.com website?
WHERE collects your phone number on the web site so we know which phone you are using when you manage your widgets. Some widgets may also use your phone number to send you opt-in text message alerts about things you’ve chosen to hear about.
WHERE collects your email address as an extra layer of security so that you can request a new password or PIN. We may also send you occasional emails regarding system updates. At times, we may also send you notice of new features unless you choose to opt-out of marketing communications.
